Late Ice Walleye Action on Leech Lake

Late ice on Leech Lake is providing some of the best walleye action of the entire winter season. The fish are active and feeding in preparation for the spawn.

Ice thickness is down to 14 inches and deteriorating. Use caution and follow marked paths. Water temp is 36F and the fish are starting to think about the upcoming spawn.

– Walker Bay: Mud flats in 12-16 feet
– Sucker Bay: Break lines producing active fish
– Portage Bay: Deep holes holding schools

**Late Ice Strategy**
Dead sticking with shiner minnows has been the most productive technique. Set up on the break lines and be patient. The bites can be subtle but the fish are quality.
